Planning an efficient process

The path suggested below will help you to plan your efforts efficiently and effectively. When possible, an estimate of the required time is provided and important points to take into account in your planning are emphasized. The order in which certain steps are taken may have an impact on subsequent steps with regard to time and costs. Request for equivalence

  • File review (once all required documents have been provided) : 
    Estimated time : 3 months for preliminary decision

  • Representations before the Admissions Committee (if applicable)
    Estimated time : 2 to 3 months

  • Evaluation of competencies (if applicable)
    Estimated time : 3 to 4 months
    CAUTION Advanced proficiency in French or English is strongly recommended in order to be able to provide a complete demonstration of your occupational therapy competencies to the Order

  • Representations before the Admissions Committee (if applicable)
    Estimated time : 2 to 3 months

  • Request for a review by the Board of Directors (if applicable)
    Estimated time : 3 months

  • Final decision by the Order 
    Valid for 3 years 


The overall duration of the equivalence recognition process varies depending on the various steps mentioned above that may apply. It also does not consider the additional training to be acquired, if applicable, nor the immigration process, which can influence the duration and achievement of certain stages of the equivalence recognition process.
